Getting the most out of your session

Light is everything. Outdoor sessions will take place in the lovely hours of either sunrise or sunset. Golden hour is when the skin looks soft and captures true emotion that reflects my work.

The season and sun will play a role in our locations. I love grassy rolling fields, forests, and water. Style is a part of what tells your story. Color choices, fabric, and movement make a huge impact on how much you will love your photographs. To get the most out of your family photos, I suggest sticking to a palette of about 3 colors. A wardrobe of earth tones and neutrals are what I look for to combine with textures and movement. Please try to coordinate your family, but not completely match. Maxi dresses, or long skirts always photograph wonderfully on women. Parents in solids and children in prints always look nice and make the children stand out well. Avoid big headbands, collars, or things you have to adjust. Accessories look great on women, but men should leave hats at home. Before your session I ask for a layout of your planned outfits to ensure you will love your photographs for years to come. I cannot stress enough how much style will play a factor in your photos and I am here to guide you every step of the way!

I am a storytelling photographer. I try to observe your personality and photograph the natural interactions with those you love. I have a general workflow of poses I will direct you through while also capturing the in-between moments and will encourage you to be yourself. This means no awkward smiles but lots of relaxed good times.

Lifestyle newborn sessions are a relaxed peek into your family's life as you cuddle up with your new baby at the comfort of your own home. Sessions are calm and natural, without any posing as we capture those tender moments between your family and new baby. These sessions are ideal if you have plenty of natural light flowing through the windows of your home. We will need clean and uncluttered space for the photographs, and I ask that you tidy up the nursery and master bedroom before I arrive. We'll capture some photos of you cuddling with your baby in the nursery, in the crib, including all the subtle decorating details that you lovingly set up during those last weeks of your pregnancy.
